Prospect theory is a behavioural model that shows how people decide between alternatives that involve risk and uncertainty (e.g. % likelihood of gains or losses).
An important element of prospect theory is the idea that individuals are particularly averse to losing what they already have and less concerned to gain (see loss aversion).
